Well hello there, everyone! I had a rather relaxing weekend, I signed up for Yuletide! My letter is over on DW if you're curious - I ended up asking for HTTYD, Natsume Yuujinchou, Justified, and the Thief of Eddis books. I've offered HTTYD, Natsume Yuujinchou, Mushishi, and PoP '08 so far, but I may add more as the week goes on. I will hopefully finish this next Hungry Ground chapter before assignments go out next week.

But first! I am in full Harry Potter-mode, thanks to the first part of Deathly Hallows coming out this weekend, and my weekend-long marathon of A Very Potter Musical. (Darren Criss is tag-teaming with Chris Colfer to steal my heart. WELL I CAN TELL YOU NOW THAT IT'S NOT GOING TO W-- okay yes, it's totally working, as [livejournal.com profile] sotto_voice will be able to tell you. Dammit.)

Anyway, I'm always interested in hearing about people's favorite Potter book, because it seems to vary quite a bit. Personally, I like Prisoner of Azkaban the best because I love me some Lupin, but Goblet of Fire is a really close second for all the sublime trauma it inflicts. What's your favorite book of the series?

Fair warning: probable discussion of spoilers in the comments!

GOBLET OF FIRE BABY. I loved the competition tasks and all the romance, and especially the fact that Hermione got gussied up and got the hot athlete boy and made Ron jealous. I was a nerd girl; it was cathartic.

GoF is so freaking epic, I can't even. ♥ I think it's the best written, too. It couldn't have been easy writing the shift to an older age range, but the graveyard scene is so terrifying. I really want to read it again, which works out, because it's the only book I have with me here in DC. :D

Prisoner of Azakaban is my favorite, too. It's one of the few times that I've totally been caught off guard by a plot twist, and it really starts to stir up some shades of gray for our baddies and good guys.

Also: Fuck yes, AVPM. :D

I'm not sure since it's been so long since I've read the books but maybe Chamber of Secrets? I like Prisoner and Azkaban and Goblet of Fire a lot too, but I have a soft spot for Chamber of Secrets because it was the first book I'd ever read that truly freaked me out. The idea of monstrous snakes in the plumbing scared the crap out of me for at least a week after I'd actually read the book, trufax.

I'm with you on Prisoner of Azkaban. Goblet Of Fire is a lot of people's favorite book in the series, but for some reason it didn't do it for me the same way it seems to've for a lot of others.

Prisoner of Azkaban same as everyone else, but my second favorite is the second. Almost everyone else thinks it's the worst though.

I also really like Prisoner of Azkaban. It was my favorite because of Remus/Sirius and also I kind of liked that it ended up not having to do with Voldemort at all. And I always love characters who are thought to be evil who aren't (Sirius is my favorite!), so yeah.

I haven't re-read all the books since Deathly Hallows came out, but I also really liked Order of the Phoenix. A lot of people complained that Harry was really angry and whiny in that book, but considering he's, what 16?, I thought it fit pretty well with what he was going through and the age he would be. Plus, I'd be pissed too if all my friends joined a secret society behind my back and I didn't find out until later. :P Also, I just love angst, and that book especially is FULL of it. XD And while Goblet of Fire starts the turn from maybe YA to definitely more adult themes and whatnot in the series, I think OotP really runs with that, so I like the transition as well.

Also: I finally got around to watching the Darren Criss episode of Glee. I had no idea that he was on there until you mentioned it. OMG I don't even like Glee, but that episode just melted my heart. As you said, cheesy uniformed boys choir. Ahhh <3 <3 <3
