My first week is over, and I'm enjoying the hell out of my downtime! I'm also in a 'blab about writing' mood, so here's a meme that
inarticulate came up with:
So! Give me a character*, or two, or however many, and I will give you:
A) An OTP
B) A runner up
C) A ship I dislike
D) My take on said character, unpopular or otherwise
E) If relevant, my happy ending (AU or non) for that character
F) A bit of headcanon about how I view their sexuality
G) A character from another fandom I would love them to meet
*Original characters would be great, but if you're not familiar with any/want to hear about a fannish character, I'm game for that, too. ♥

Date: 2010-08-29 02:27 am (UTC)From:B. Silas/Tobias, since they're pretty much life mates anyway? Also Tobias/Evie (the third founding member of the team who died before the story began), because they were adorable and hot. ♥
C. Not that I actively dislike it, because I love when people ship it, but I wouldn't ship Hawthorne/Tobias myself. But I'm not much of a rivalshipper anyway.
D. Oh, Tobias. He is probably the most confident (and hyper) character I've ever written, and possibly one of the scarier protagonists. He's a good person, for sure, and he's got really good intentions. But he's also got his own code of morals, and if his job forced him to kill someone, he would probably find a way to justify it. That's probably why he makes a good
mercenaryconsultant.E. After Lily's job is over, Tobias and the gang enjoy local fame, more high-profile jobs, and generally live a more comfortable life. And eventually, eventually, Tobias gets Aidan to consent to a date.
F. Tobias likes to pretend that he's an 'anything that moves' sort, but he's actually very picky when it comes to both men and women. Evie was his long-term SO since he was a teenager, and after she died, he didn't date many others before he met Aidan.
G. Oooh! Um. Kurosaki Isshin from Bleach. They'd be horrifying together.

Cat
Date: 2010-08-29 03:52 am (UTC)From:B. Rakan/Cat. I am a sucker for tragedy on occasion.
C. I'll repeat what I said about Tobias/Hawthorne above and say Fanel/Cat. It's interesting when people ship it, but I wouldn't myself! I think it'd be more effed up than Tobias/Hawthorne, for one.
D. My favorite thing about writing Cat is that he's got such a spine of steel that not a lot of people recognize. Including him. He's arrogant in some ways - as he'd say, he's fairly smart, good-looking, and even if he doesn't have the best personality, he can fake it in polite circles. But when it comes to being useful as a soldier, he doesn't have any confidence at all.
Despite that, though, when he really needs to - especially when everyone else around him is falling apart - he can be unshakable. It makes his awesome moments really fun to write. ♥
E. Most of that is spoilery, but I can tell you that he survives the war and becomes a professor at the capital's university on top of his Guardian duties, after spending many years yelling at his thesis. Chris, who shares an apartment with him, often had to resort to underhanded tactics to get him outside on occasion.
F. Cat is so not interested in sex at all. I think in general he forms closer relationships with men, but he wouldn't be opposed to marrying a woman if that's how his family wanted it.
G. Oh gosh I don't know. Maybe Isaac and Miria? They'd totally adopt him.
Lanh
Date: 2010-08-29 04:12 am (UTC)From:B. You're going to hit me for this, but Aurel/Lanh. Not as much when Aurel is doing his 'Depraved Psychopath' act, but a lot more when he drops the disguises and becomes more of an ally to Lanh and Tuyen. Which I haven't really written yet, lolz.
C. I have no idea. I haven't thought about Lanh with anyone but those two. CASIMIR/LANH? I don't know.
D. I get the feeling like I'm taking Lanh in a different direction than my cowriter did, but since most of the other characters from that story have gone through a shift since the original project, I couldn't exactly leave him behind.
I see Lanh as something of a Knight Templar: he grew up really wanting to be the White Knight, but once those principles were twisted, he was willing to do anything for them. He sees that as very straightforward. When it comes to Tuyen, though, it's a little more complicated. Even though he wanted to protect her, he was well-aware that she was the protector in the relationship, and he generally considered her invincible. Once she got sick and subsequently became his assignment, he got his wish, but never quite figured out how to reconcile assignment-Tuyen with protector-Tuyen. Which is probably what gives him the most trouble. But as the story goes on and she starts getting badass again, he remembers why he admired her in the first place.
E. Well, they escape the base! I'm honestly coming up with everything else after that, but Lanh and Tuyen definitely survive and get to live a fairly quiet life eventually.
F. Again, Lanh isn't a very sexual being! Probably because there aren't many people who exist in his worldview. He would have to get away from a soldier's life for a while before he started to think about sex.
G. Roy Mustang. For the lulz. And the fire.
Xue
Date: 2010-08-29 04:28 am (UTC)From:B. Jiaming/Xue, in a platonic sense. I love their relationship to bits, but I see them as best friends/siblings, not boyfriend and girlfriend.
C. I forget his name, but Xue with the Japanese spy? Probably because Xue would have a knife at his throat in seconds. So much for foreplay.
D. Xue is another character with a hidden spine, though in this case, it's less hidden. From the beginning I've thought of Xue as a bit of a combat nut - not in the sense that he's bloodthirsty, but he practices his form obsessively. He's good enough that he can get away with disabling but non-lethal blows most of the time, but if he's in a situation where he has to kill, he'll go through with it. He won't like it much, though.
Of course, since Xue is so tiny, effeminate and shy, people rarely notice that he's pretty good. With his friends, though, he gets much less twitchy as time goes on, and pretty much becomes their mother. He has several little brothers and sisters, and it really, really shows.
E. I don't know how Xue's story ends! Best case scenario, though, is that he and (most of?) his friends make it.
F. Definitely gay. Not that he can be that open about it in 19th century China, but hey, it's AU.
G. Just about any spazzy character from any fandom, so he can be maddeningly patient at them.
