Happy 2010, and Yuletide reveal!
It's 2010, y'all! ... I'm so fucked, hahaha.
But it is officially post-Yuletide reveal! Time to show my stories to the world!
As you know, I participated in the Yuletide Obscure Fandom Fanfic Exchange once again this year, and it was my third year! My first year, I wrote:
Hair of the Dog in the Black Lagoon fandom, and Fearless in the Mushishi fandom.
Last year, I wrote The Traces of Spring for the Onmyoji movies, Eschewing Protocol for Diana Gabaldon's Lord John books, Deluge for Mushishi, and Something Approaching Normalcy for Natsume Yuujinchou.
AND THIS YEAR (drumroll!) I WROTE:
Smoke and Numbers for Tanya Huff's Smoke books!
Latika and the Flat World for Slumdog Millionaire!
and The Last Gasp of Chivalry for the movie Saving Face! (surprise,
glass_icarus!)
There seemed to be a theme this year for my fics - a sort of "what comes after happily-ever-after" thing? I also find it funny that one was slash, one was het, and one was femslash. I'm equal-opportunity like that.
Smoke and Numbers: This was my assigned fic. I've basically signed up for the Smoke fandom every single year, and finally, I wrote it! That made me pretty happy. ♥
There was a lot of pressure too, though. The majority of the post-canon Smoke fics (which my recipient wanted) are really long and really awesome, two things I don't exactly specialize in. So I tried my best, at least! It was really fun writing in the completely irreverent, pop-culture-referencing style that Tanya Huff uses for the books, and for the plot itself, I expanded on the OCD haunted house that I played around with in a Possession is Nine-Tenths of the Law fic a while ago. I had been worried about writing it, but it was a fun, fun fic.
Latika and the Flat World: I love this movie so much, and Jamal/Latika is a pairing that never fails to make me cry like a teenage girl. The recipient asked that Latika have her own story, which I was excited to write, because I adore Latika. True, the movie is mostly from Jamal's POV, but Latika is an intriguing character in her own right. She's a survivor, she's aggressively practical, and the way I see her, she has equal parts admiration and envy for Jamal's romanticism. I wanted to show her happily-ever-after through her eyes, and I'm glad so many people enjoyed it. ♥
The Last Gasp of Chivalry: I didn't have the source on hand for this one, so hopefully it came out okay! Wil and Vivian are amazing and deserve lots and lots of fic, and I wanted to contribute. ♥
And that's it until next year! Will repost things later.
Oh, and by the way, I couldn't help but notice that a lot of you made New Year's Resolutions to start writing more. Well, you'll be able to get started with that right away! :D The Third Original Fiction Drabble-thon opens tomorrow and stays open through January! (Take a look at the first one if you don't know what I'm talking about!)
